Welcome to the ICSS Region 4 page! From Bloomington, Champaign, Danville, Decatur, and the many wonderful communities in between, the places and people of Region 4 has had a tremendous impact on the state of Illinois! I am excited to help connect you to the geographic, economic, and social history of Region 4 for your students to learn about. My name is Drew Monkemeyer and I am the Region 4 representative. I currently teach Social Studies at Concordia Lutheran School in Peoria. It is my role to serve as advocate for Social Studies Education in and beyond Region 4. Below are opportunities and resources that may enhance Social Studies Education in our classrooms. Rt. 66 Miles of Possibilities Conference
“This year’s annual conference will be themed “Under the Big Top” because of the Bloomington- Normal’s history with circuses, dating to the 1870’s when a couple of barns and local YWCA served as practice sites for aerial performers.
Speakers representing the Illinois State University’s Gamma Phi Circus will discuss its history and share their stories of circus in the area. Over two days, many other presenters will discuss the Mother Road, past , present and future “

Mark your calendars for the museum's fall cemetery walk! Along your guided walk, you will meet various people in the cemetery who will tell you their story. Your tour guide will tell you more stories and give you background information on the cemetery itself and various symbols found on gravestones.
